The announcement was made at the Snapdragon Stadium, which will serve as home field for the San Diego franchise when they open in 2025.
The latest expansion team will be owned by Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour, as well as the Sycuan Bank of the Kumeyaay Nation, and Manny Machado, star player of the San Diego Padres. The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation is now the first Native American tribe to co-own a US professional soccer team. Other owners of the club are Brad Termini (Zephyr Brothers) and Tom Vernon and Dan Dickenson. Meanwhile, Tom Penn, former LAFC president, will be the CEO of the franchise. The name and crest of the club will be announced in the future.
